The Mercedes drivers managed to get on the podium together again.
The German team struggled with their pace at the season opener, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell a good distance behind the leaders. However, as the year progressed, the performance of the W13 was getting better and more stable, where in the last six races they always had at least one driver on the podium. The fact is that since the improvements that were presented at Silverstone, Mercedes managed to get closer to Red Bull and Ferrari.
“This is very satisfying.” Hamilton said. “This gives us a good feeling, considering the kind of year we’re having, it’s nice to have achieved this kind of progress. Second place at the French GP was a great success for us, and for two races in a row, George and I share the podium, which is fantastic, as is the point performance. The fact that we were ahead of Ferrari with both cars is a big thing, considering our pace. To start from seventh place in Hungary and reach the podium shows that we can recover and that our pace is strong.”
