Lewis Hamilton : We are getting closer to rivals

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton says they are getting closer to their rivals after winning second podium this season at the Canadian Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion was thrilled after winning third place in Montreal. After free practice, Hamilton called his Mercedes “the worst car he has ever driven” in Montreal.
However, he finished fourth in qualifying, his best starting position in 2022, behind Max Verstappen, Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz.
The driver of the Mercedes changed his mood after the race. The Briton says it has been ‘irresistible’ to take third place due to a big fight with the car since the start of the season.
“It’s pretty irresistible to win third place. But we continue to stay awake and focused. We never give up and that is something I am so proud of and inspired by my team. So thank you to everyone here and in the factory, ” Hamilton said.

Despite the team achieving one of its best results so far this year, the British driver adds that Mercedes is still not at the pace of Ferrari and Red Bull, but claims they are getting closer.
“They are a little too fast for us at the moment. But we give everything (of ourselves). We are getting closer, so we just have to keep pushing, keep pushing, hoping that in the end we will fight these drivers, ” he added.
On the other hand, with two virtual and one full period safety car, challenged by Yuki Tsunoda in lap 49, the grid came together which helped the Mercedes driver have race leaders in sight.
“I could see them in the end thanks to the safety car, but honestly, our pace was pretty good, especially in the second phase. We did a lot of work on the simulator, but also here to make the right settings, ” he explains.
“Honestly, I’m thrilled, I didn’t expect this to come over the weekend. This is my second podium, so this seems really special, especially where I won my first race, here in Montreal. ”
