The decision for both brands to enter F1 was made due to the growing popularity of the sport worldwide
The Volkswagen Group has officially confirmed that Audi and Porsche will join Formula 1. The news came from Herbert Diess, CEO of the VW Group, during a conversation aired Monday morning on the YouTube channel of the big conglomerate. The decision for both brands to enter F1 was made due to the growing popularity of the sport around the world and the opportunity arising from the new regulations that will come into force in 2026.
Although Herbert Diess did not go into details, much is already known. Porsche aims to establish a long-term partnership with Red Bull, ie to produce engines. The cars will run on synthetic fuels, and Porsche has already invested in this technology and plans to use it as fuel for its legendary models, especially the 911.
Audi is going the other way and will try to take over McLaren for around € 50 million. Entry into F1 is also planned for 2021 when new rules come into play.
